CatchMark SportsNet: Player of the Week (January 13-January 20)

Three athletes rose above the rest this week with performances that delivered on the biggest stages and in the biggest moments. One turned in a dominant double-double to power a showcase win over a defending state champion and keep an unbeaten season rolling, another fought through an elite field to finish runner-up at one of the state’s toughest wrestling tournaments, and the third delivered the week’s most clutch highlight by knocking down three free throws with 0.7 seconds left to seal a dramatic conference victory.

James Martin – Muskegon Boys Basketball

Martin delivered the biggest performance on the biggest stage of the week. His 27 points and 14 rebounds powered Muskegon past defending Division 2 state champion Warren Lincoln at the MLK Horacio Classic. He dominated against elite competition, controlled the game on both ends, and helped keep Muskegon undefeated at 9–0.

Austin Jacobs – Fruitport Wrestling

Jacobs earned his spot by excelling at one of the toughest wrestling tournaments in the state, finishing second out of 27 teams at the Williamston Classic. He defeated three top-10 ranked wrestlers, went 4–1, and lost the championship match by just one point to the No. 1-ranked Division 2 wrestler. His performance scored crucial team points and showcased elite individual skill against the highest level of competition.

Rilynn Porter – Hart Girls Basketball

Porter produced the week’s most clutch moment, calmly sinking three free throws with 0.7 seconds remaining to lift Hart to a dramatic 41–39 conference win over North Muskegon. She led the Pirates with 15 points and showed exceptional composure under pressure in one of the most intense games of the week.
