Three individuals from the West Michigan Conference punched their tickets to the MHSAA boys golf state finals June 7-8.
No teams from the league qualified for next weekend’s state finals.
The top three teams from regional play qualify for the state finals, as do the top three individuals not part of qualifying squads.
Here is a roundup of the action from this week’s regionals involving WMC teams and individuals:
DIVISION 2 AT CEDAR CHASE
In a Division 2 regional at Cedar Chase in Cedar Springs, Ludington senior Evan McCarthy qualified for the state finals as an individual when he shot 76. He was the third individual qualifier from the regional. Later in the day, he helped the Orioles’ baseball team defeat Newaygo, 5-4, in a Division 2 pre-district game to advance to today’s (June 1) district semifinals against Fremont at Big Rapids.
Forest Hills Eastern (303), Forest Hills Central (309), and East Grand Rapids (312) were the top three teams in the regional.
Fremont finished 12th (353), Ludington was 13th (356), Whitehall 17th (382), and Oakridge 19th (398).
The Division 2 state finals will be held June 7-8 at Michigan State University’s Forest Akers West.

DIVISION 3 AT OLD CHANNEL TRAIL
Two individuals from the West Michigan Conference qualified for the MHSAA Division 3 state finals June 7-8 at Ferris State’s Katke with their performances in the regional hosted by Old Channel Trail in Montague on Tuesday (May 28).
Hart junior Kaden Bond shot 81 and Orchard View senior Ethan Hodges carded 82 to punch their tickets to the state finals. Hodges won on the first playoff hole to qualify for the state finals.
Grand Rapids Covenant Christian won the team regional title (301), while Grand Rapids West Catholic was second (315), and Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian third (320).
Montague placed sixth as a team (350), while North Muskegon was ninth (355), Hart 10th (363), Shelby 12th (372), Ravenna 16th (396), and Orchard View 17th (454).

DIVISION 3 AT QUEST GOLF COURSE
No West Michigan Conference teams or individuals qualified for the MHSAA Division 3 state finals from the regional Tuesday (May 28) at Quest Golf Club in Houghton Lake.
Traverse City St. Francis took top honors as a team (315), while Remus Chippewa Hills was second (340), and Alma third (341).
Manistee placed 10th as a team (356), while Mason County Central finished 18th (453).
DIVISION 4 AT STONEGATE
No West Michigan Conference teams or individuals qualified for the MHSAA Division 4 state finals from the regional Thursday (May 30) at Stonegate Golf Club in Twin Lake.
Grandville Calvin Christian won the team title (315), followed by Saugatuck second (335), and Wyoming Tri-unity Christian third (341).
Hesperia placed 12th as a team (450). Holton had only two golfers compete in the regional, thus no team score was tallied.
