Cross Country and Hay Bales; Fremont hosts the Hill and Bale XC Meet

Up and over the bale.

FREMONT – On Saturday, September 7th, 2024, runners will gather for the annual Hill and Bale Race, a unique and fun-filled event. The defining feature of this race? The hay bales scattered across the course. As part of the race rules, participants must jump over – not run around – the bales, with disqualification awaiting those who try to take the easy way out. Though the atmosphere is lighthearted, the course is notoriously tough, and the added obstacle of the hay bales makes it even more challenging. Speed isn’t the primary goal here for most runners.

Boys Race (Team)

Allendale dominated the boys’ race, securing the top two individual finishes. Hot on their heels was the home team, Fremont. Whitehall rounded out the top three.

Girls Race (Team)

In Girls Hill and Bale Action, Coopersville took the win here. Fremont and Fruitport following up at a tie for second with 77 points respectively.

Boys Race (Individual)

On the individual side, Allendale’s Mason Hill (17:04.15) and Ronnie Silveira (17:04.25) took first and second respectively. While following was Vincent Pollock (17:07.02) and Stewart Waters (17:07.77) who were seperated by .75 seconds. Rounding out the top 5 was Parker Teithof (17:14.78).

Girls Race (Individual)
