Get to know new Manistee football coach on CatchMark SportsNet Podcast

Alvin Rischel joins co-hosts Scott DeCamp and Myles Welch along with Mike Taylor on Season 7 Episode 2.

WHITEHALL — Manistee’s football team is scheduled to visit Whitehall in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division game during Week 5 of the 2024 season.

New Manistee head varsity football coach Alvin Rischel made an early trip to Whitehall Monday night (April 15). He was featured guest for Season 7 Episode 2 of the CatchMark SportsNet Podcast.

Podcast co-hosts Scott DeCamp and Myles Welch were joined by longtime football coach and broadcaster Mike Taylor as they took part in a very interesting and informative discussion with Rischel.

Rischel has served on Manistee’s coaching staff the last six years, most recently holding down the Mariners’ defensive coordinator spot. In total, he has 25 years of coaching experience.

Rischel takes over for Troy Bytwork, who was 39-29 with five playoff appearances, including the last four years in a row, during his seven seasons at the Manistee helm. Bytwork stepped down in order to spend more time with his family.

Rischel, a longtime Manistee County 911 dispatcher, is the emergency management coordinator fnr 911 deputy director for his county.

In the podcast, Taylor offers words of wisdom to Rischel and Welch, who is a CatchMark SportsNet intern and Whitehall High School junior with aspirations of becoming a sports broadcaster.
