Hart’s competitive cheer team wins West Michigan Conference title

Pirates check off one goal with first-place league finish after meet at Mason County Central.

Hart’s competitive cheer team set some high goals this season. The Pirates can check one of them off their list.

Hart won the West Michigan Conference title Wednesday night in a meet at Mason County Central. The Pirates totaled 712.04 points — 221 in the first round, 205.84 in the second round, 285.2 in the third round — to finish at the top of the pack.

Mason County Central placed second with 689.12 points (218.6-191.12-279.4). Whitehall was third (660.26), Ludington fourth (645.26), Montague fifth (644.74), Shelby sixth (626.7), North Muskegon seventh (571.16), Hart’s junior varsity squad eighth (533.3), Oakridge ninth (515.7) and Fremont 10th (495.92).

“This season has been a lot of fun and we aren’t done yet. We have set high goals for the season and achieving one last night by winning the West Michigan Conference title,” Hart coach Jen Hlady said.

“The girls have put in a lot of hours on the mat to get to where we are today. A lot of the girls on our team go to their own gymnastics sessions in Muskegon after our practices and I admire that dedication to being the best they can be.”

Hart’s squad has consistently seen scores over 700 this season. Hlady said that reflects the group’s work ethic.

The Pirates have other goals to achieve. They’ll be pointing to the upcoming state tournament, which for them begins with a Division 4 district at Marion on Feb. 17.

“This group of seven that make up our team is very special,” Hlady said. “They each have their own role in getting us to where we are and this is a group of girls that I will never forget. They have made their mark within the Hart competitive cheer program.”
