‘Hot Seat:’ Ludington shortstop hits line shots, slap shots, and golf shots

CatchMark’s Tate Stine catches up with Orioles senior Evan McCarthy.

WHITEHALL – Ludington’s baseball team recently made its way to the CatchMark office in Whitehall for entertaining cameos on media day.

Since the Orioles were in town, CatchMark SportsNet’s Tate Stine managed to corner defensive-minded shortstop Evan McCarthy.

McCarthy may not be the tallest in stature, but he leaves his impact on the game. McCarthy sports a quick bat and speed on the base paths, and he can flash some leather in the middle infield.

During his interview with Stine, McCarthy was asked about his interests outside of the baseball diamond. To some who may not know him, it can be a surprise to find out that McCarthy’s favorite sport is hockey.

But hockey is not a foreign sport to the McCarthy family. Even’s older brother, Austin, has always had his eyes set on the ice, even from a young age. In fact, Austin McCarthy was deemed a phenom by the age of 10 and was awarded the title “2009 Sports Illustrated SportsKid of the year.”

When McCarthy was asked about his plans after high school, turns out he also loves to hit the links. McCarthy is an avid golfer (when it doesn’t mess with his baseball swing) and he hopes to make a career out of it.
