‘Hot Seat:’ Orchard View AD Leroy Hackley Jr. — man of many hats, child of disco

The affable, well-rounded Hackley is featured on Season 2 Episode 2 of this fun series.

In past episodes of the Hot Seat, CatchMark SportsNet’s Tate Stine has sat down with numerous student-athletes spanning various sports.

Recently, Stine sat down with Leroy Hackley Jr., Orchard View’s affable athletic director for Season 2 Episode 2 of the Hot Seat.

The well-spirited Hackley started his professional career in the athletic field at Eastern Michigan University. Since EMU, he’s spent time at Grand Valley State University along with Byron Center, Jenison and Grant high schools, plus OV of course.

If Hackley weren’t handling the duties involved with school sports, then he was probably spending his time officiating. He’s officiated at the collegiate (NCAA, NAIA, MCCAA) and high school levels. He also boasts — or, as he would humbly state — that he’s “had the privilege to” officiate several Michigan High School Athletic Association state-title games along with championships at the NAIA and Division II collegiate levels.

These days, Hackley is starting to wind down his very successful and accomplished career. When he’s not working, Hackley still finds himself watching or playing sports whenever he can. He jokingly refers to his love for sports as his “sickness.”

In his interview with Stine, Hackley was asked a variety of different questions. Just of a few topics he was asked about are his love for being an AD, some of the best teams he’s officiated, and even his go-to song playlist. (Hint: Hackley is a child of disco.)
