‘Ice Breaker:’ Hesperia senior standout wrestler grapples with pressing questions

Alex Sayer has set high goals for himself and his team this season.

HESPERIA – Last season was a good one for Hesperia wrestler Alex Sayer. He posted a 38-12 record, including a trip to the Division 4 state finals at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Panthers senior is looking for even more success this season. But how will he handle the ultimate pressure as a guest on CatchMark SportsNet’s “Ice Breaker?”

Tate Stine put Sayer to the test recently, traveling to Hesperia for an interview with the Panthers’ standout 120-pounder, who has been dominating his weight class of late.

During the interview, Stine asked Sayer about his inspiration to dedicate himself to the sport along with his interests outside of wrestling. While it was his first interview, Sayer handled the questions head-on.

If Sayer continues to win at his current pace, then he should reach the 100-win milestone for his career this season. While he is proud of his accomplishment, Sayer and his coaches always wonder what could have been if his sophomore season weren’t cut short because of Sayer having to quarantine.

Nevertheless, Sayer will join prestigious company. The Hesperia wrestling program is very established and successful, with 10 former wrestlers having more than 200 career wins and better than 60 grapplers accumulating 100 victories.

Recently, Sayer is coming off a 3-1 day at Allendale’s Falcon Invite. He hopes to continue to add to his win column in future matches.
