‘Ice Breaker:’ Lively Orchard View girls basketball players shoot their shot in new series

Senior Mia Martin and junior Payten Bliech look to lead Cardinals to a climb in the win column.

MUSKEGON — Earlier this week, CatchMark SportsNet’s Tate Stine caught up with Orchard View girls basketball starters Mia Martin and Payten Bliech for the “Ice Breaker,” a segment very similar to the “Hot Seat,” which is shot in the spring.

In this series featuring West Michigan Conference athletes, coaches and sometimes both, Stine poses a series of fun, rapid-fire questions in a video interview.

The collection of questions that were asked to Martin and Bliech gave insight on both of their accomplishments, basketball careers and personalities. It was obvious by the end of the interview that they’re both solid teammates and great people on and off the court. Both players were full of charisma and didn’t hold back in giving funny and honest answers.

Martin is playing her fourth season on the Orchard View girls basketball team. She hopes to continue to be a threat offensively and an anchor down low in the paint.

Bliech is playing her first year on the varsity team and she plans to make her presence known. While basketball may not be her first sport of choice, she is still determined to make a positive impact from the guard position.

While Martin’s and Bliech’s team has started 0-4 (0-2 in the WMC Lakes Division), they’re optimistic and positive in their approach going forward. The Cardinals will take on the Oakridge Eagles tonight (Friday, Dec. 16) in a conference clash where they hope to turn things around.

The full video can be found at the top of this article and on CatchMark SportsNet’s YouTube channel. Stay tuned each Friday to see the newest episode of the “Ice Breaker.”
