‘Ice Breaker:’ North Muskegon’s Troy McManus is one cool customer

Norsemen senior is a standout in two sports and in classroom. (Check out that SAT score!)

NORTH MUSKEGON – Troy McManus is used to being the center of attention in baseball and basketball, whether it be on the mound or handling the ball on the basketball court.

Earlier this week, McManus was once again the focal point as he sat down with CatchMark SportsNet’s Tate Stine for Episode 7 of the CatchMark SportsNet Ice Breaker. McManus was asked a series of rapid-fire questions, including about his dream job, scholarly attributes, plans after college and more.

Did you know that McManus scored an eye-popping 1540 on the SAT?

While McManus shines on the court, he is also a standout player on the diamond. Last year, McManus helped lead North Muskegon to a 24-12-1 overall record and 11-3 mark in West Michigan Conference play.

McManus finished the year with an astounding .480 batting average and 28 stolen bases, leading his team in both categories en route to being voted the 2022 CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Year in baseball. McManus also was a force on the mound, holding a 1.75 earned run average and striking out 63 batters in the process.

McManus and the Norsemen are enjoying a strong basketball season, sporting a 13-3 record (6-2 WMC Rivers Division). Coming off a tough loss Tuesday at West Michigan Aviation Academy, North Muskegon bounced back Thursday with a runaway home win over Hesperia. Against the Panthers, McManus drained six 3-pointers and led all scorers with 28 points.

The Norsemen will make a short trip to neighboring Ravenna tonight to take on the Bulldogs in another divisional clash.
