Ira Jenkins wins CatchMark Player of the Week (Dec. 6-11)

48.8% of total vote solidifies Jenkins as Player of the Week

Voters have determined that Whitehall senior, Ira Jenkins is the CatchMark Player of the Week. This is Jenkins’ first nomination for Player of the Week as he was rehabilitating an injury throughout the Fall football season. The dominant Viking wrestler has already committed to the University of Michigan to continue his competitive career.

The masterful heavy weight opened his season last Wednesday, where he knocked off Kent City as well as the seventh ranked wrestler in the state within the first 30 seconds of the first round.

Last Saturday, the senior was a Southwest Classic tournament champion posting a 5-0 record on the day with three first period pins. Jenkins was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler.

Earlier this week, Jenkins defeated both of his opponents to remain undefeated and continue his dominance. He plans to repeat the performance of his junior season and finish as an undefeated state champion again this year. The future Wolverine is a leader for his team and many youth in the wrestling scene.

The timely highlight received 48.8% of the total vote, landing him in the number one spot. Kendall Zoulek of Shelby’s girls basketball team followed with a runner-up finish and 33.3% of the total vote.
