Manistee sweeps host Hart in WMC nondivisional baseball action

Manistee’s baseball team swept a West Michigan Conference nondivisional doubleheader from host Hart on Friday, winning 7-2 in the first game and 5-2 in the second game.

CatchMark SportsNet student volunteer Emily Vanderstelt was on hand and she captured some photos and video of the action.

Here are details and notables from the games:

  • The first game was tied at 2 before Manistee scored a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to pull away. Hart made seven errors in the contest.
  • In Game 1, Jeffrey Huber earned the pitching win for Manistee. He allowed two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in six innings of work. Huber, the Chippewas’ leadoff batter, also helped his own cause with a pair of hits, two stolen bases and a run scored.
  • Ethan Edmondson had a hit, an RBI and run scored for Manistee in the first game.
  • Eli Workman and Adam Workman also had hits for the Chippewas in Game 1.
  • Blake Weirich took the loss for Hart in the first game. He allowed seven runs (only one earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.
  • Weirich and Ty Schlukebir paced Hart with two hits apiece in Game 1. Schlukebir doubled, scored in a run and drove in a run. Weirich had an RBI.
  • Kyan Clark and Mitchell Slade also had hits for the Pirates in the first game.
  • In Game 2, Eli Workman picked up the win for Manistee. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work.
  • Huber doubled and scored a run in the second game for the Chippewas.
  • In Game 2, Edmondson had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored, plus he stole three bases for the Chippewas.
  • Jaret Edmondson, Eli Workman, Adam Workman, Donavyn Kirchinger and Landin Sowa also had hits for Manistee in the second game.
  • Schlukebir took the loss for Hart in Game 2. He allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
  • Clark led Hart in the second game with two hits.
  • Carter Ramseyer went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Mitchell Slade and Eian Sawdy also had hits for the Pirates in Game 2.
