Montague’s boys soccer team bounced back from a pair of West Michigan Conference losses last week and posted a 3-2 victory over visiting Hart Tuesday.

The win improves Montague to 9-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. Hart is 5-8-3 and 1-4, respectively.

“It wasn’t our best match to date, but I’m happy the kids grinded it out for the win,” Montague coach Brandon Mahoney said.

After falling behind 1-0 against the Pirates early, the Wildcats evened the score just before the half off a corner kick finished by Owen Raeth.

In the second half, Montague found its groove scoring twice more. Isaiah Morales scored on an assist from Zack Henderson, and Christopher Aebig scored on a long ball from keeper Ian Degen.

Hart got one back to pull within 3-2 late, but despite an aggressive push by the Pirates in the final two minutes, the Wildcats held on for the win.

Montague will host Fremont Thursday in a nonleague matchup, which will serve as a tune-up for next Tuesday’s big match at home against rival Whitehall.
