Montague edges Hart for 4th straight boys basketball win; unbeaten North Muskegon visits

To make it five in a row, Wildcats will need to topple unbeaten North Muskegon.

Montague’s boys basketball made it 4-for-4 on its current homestand with a 51-46 victory over Hart Tuesday night in West Michigan Conference nondivisional play.

In order to make it 5-for-5, Montague will have to topple unbeaten North Muskegon tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 31).

Tip-off time for the Wildcats (9-5) and Norsemen (14-0) is roughly 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, Montague got past Hart with balanced scoring. Owen Raeth led the way with 13 points, followed by Paul Olson with 12, Cole Herremans 10, and Isaiah Atchison nine.

Hart’s Blake Weirich paced all scorers with 22 points, 11 assists, and three steals. Caleb Ackley had 10 points, four rebounds, and three blocks for the Pirates.

“Things got close with about three minutes left and the score was tied 43-43 with Pirates possessing the ball. But, it was not to be, as another turnover gave the ball back to Montague where they were able to capitalize,” said Hart coach Nick Bronsema, whose team saw its four-game winning streak snapped.

“After three offensive rebounds, the ball found an open Herremans for the big 3-point shot to give them the lead — a lead they would not lose.”
