Montague’s boys soccer team ended its week on a high note Thursday night, as the Wildcats defeated visiting Fremont, 4-2.

Now the Wildcats (10-5-1) can turn their focus to next Tuesday’s showdown against neighboring rival Whitehall.

“We have found our groove with the win over Fremont tonight,” Montague coach Brandon Mahoney said. “The ‘Cats are fired up for their upcoming match against the Vikings.”

Fremont (9-3-4) got on the board first against Montague. The Wildcats answered right before the half, however, to tie it and pick up some momentum.

Montague maintained possession throughout the majority of the second half, resulting in three more goals.

Christopher Aebig, Blake Hudson and Owen Raeth sparked the offense for the Wildcats. Aebig and Hudson each scored a goal and Raeth tallied two, including one in the last two minutes of play. Aebig and Isaiah Morales each notched an assist.

Defensively, goalkeeper Ian Degen reached 184 saves on the season as he approaches the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s boys soccer individual record list.
