CATCHMARK SPORTSNET GAME OF THE WEEK

Muskegon at Mona Shores, 7 p.m. Friday

Not only is the Muskegon vs. Mona Shores matchup a premier game in the area each season, it has become one of the top showdowns on a statewide level in recent seasons.

The Big Reds lead the all-time series with the Sailors, 32-8, but the Sailors have captured the last two Division 2 state championships.

Mona Shores won last year’s game with Muskegon, 21-14, spoiling the Big Reds’ big night in renovated Hackley Stadium. Two years ago at Sailor Stadium, the Big Reds rolled to a 53-0 victory over the Sailors before both teams made state-finals runs.

This week’s showdown features teams that are both 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the OK Green Conference.

Muskegon and Mona Shores have finished first and second in the league standings since 2014. The Big Reds have won four conference titles during that time, while the Sailors have captured three.

Presale tickets for this game will be available later this week. Tickets also will be available for purchase at the gate.

CatchMark SportsNet will present a live pregame show on our YouTube channel at 6 p.m. Friday from Sailor Stadium.

MONTAGUE STILL OPEN THIS WEEK

Montague has an opening in its varsity football schedule this week. The West Michigan Conference-leading Wildcats (5-1 overall, 5-0 league) was originally scheduled to host Mason County Central in Week 7, but the Spartans dropped Montague, Oakridge and Whitehall prior to the season.

As things currently stand, Montague has not yet scheduled an opponent for this week. If the Wildcats do not play this week, they’ll be able to shift their entire focus on next week’s “Battle for the Bell” game at Whitehall, which is hoping to be playing for a share of the league title.

NORTH MUSKEGON-RAVENNA UP FOR LIONS GAME OF WEEK

This Friday’s intriguing West Michigan Conference matchup between North Muskegon (2-4, 2-3) and Ravenna (4-2, 3-2) at Fred Jacks Memorial Field is up for the Detroit Lions Michigan High School Football Game of the Week.

The poll opens at noon today and closes at noon Wednesday.
