MUSKEGON – A certain energy is being spread around the Big Reds season. An energy filled with optimism, hope, and enthusiasm.
Muskegon posted a 23-3 record last season and made a special run to the state quarter final against Zeeland West. In a game in which the Big Reds were down for most of it, they suddenly took a 1-point advantage with under a minute to play.
The lead would go the other way in an instant as Zeeland West scored with 5.6 seconds left. Muskegon failed to convert with its possession and the season would come to a screeching halt.
Keith Guy is at the helm for the Big Reds. Guy is the school’s Athletic Director as well. The GUY has had tremendous success since taking over the basketball team in 2012 as he is the school’s all-time winningest coach.
Junior James Martin is three level scorer who can shoot the three but can also put you on a poster. The 6’3″ guard has multiple division 1 offers including some that dated back to before his sophomore season.
Senior Elija Langston came off the bench last season but with the departures of starters due to graduation, Langston with his 6’7″ build will need to step up.
Seniors Keshaun Johnson and Arquez Petty are key returnees to the Big Red roster and will play a significant role in Muskegon’s style of play.
Muskegon will open at home against Holt High School.
Guy has entered his guys into a number of tournaments throughout the season including the Hudsonville Basketball Showcase, The D Zone Showcase, Gottagetit Hoop Classic, Horatio Williams MLK Freedom Classic, At Redhawk Showcase, Muskegon Basketball Showcase, and the annual Hall of Fame Classic.
