North Muskegon sweeps Mason County Central, goes to 4-0 in WMC Rivers baseball

Strong pitching performances by Troy McManus and Ryan Delora lead the way for the Norse.

NORTH MUSKEGON — North Muskegon’s baseball team swept visiting Mason County Central, 4-2 and 9-1, in a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division doubleheader Tuesday.

The pair of wins improves the Norsemen to 4-0 in WMC Rivers Division play and 6-2 overall. The Spartans are now 2-2 and 2-4, respectively.

Here are more details and notables:

  • In Game 1, North Muskegon’s Troy McManus earned the complete-game win. The senior left-hander allowed two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
  • In the first game, North Muskegon’s Ben Meyers was 3-for-3 with a walk, one run scored and an RBI.
  • North Muskegon’s Ryan Delora went 1-for-3 in Game 1 with a run and an RBI.
  • Will Chye took the Game 1 loss for Mason County Central. The senior right-hander allowed four runs (two earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
  • Chye, Brady Anes, Peyton Merz and Tyler Thurow had hits for the Spartans in the first game.
  • Delora, a junior right-hander, went the distance in Game 2, allowing one run on one hit with 11 strikeouts and one walk. He helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, run scored and RBI.
  • Meyers went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four stolen bases in the second game for the Norsemen.
  • North Muskegon’s Sam Gallo went 2-for-4 with a double, plus he scored a run and drove in another.
  • North Muskegon’s Carsen Moat went 2-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI.
  • T.J. Byard went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for the Norsemen.
  • Anes took the loss for Mason County Central in the nightcap. He allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 2 2/3 innings.
  • Merz managed the Spartans’ lone hit in Game 2.
