Oakridge Dominates in Possible Conference Title Showdown Double-Header

One step closer to the title…

Oakridge came ready to handle business Thursday night, marching into Whitehall and walking out with a statement-making sweep in West Michigan Conference Lakes play. The Eagles edged out the Vikings 4-2 in a tight opener, then unloaded in Game 2 with a 13-0 blowout to cap the doubleheader in dominant fashion.

The Eagles did their damage early in the opener, plating four runs across the first four innings before leaning on pitcher Kylee Willea to shut the door. Avery Willea led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Kelcey Osborne and Maddy Bowen each added key hits to keep the pressure on.

Whitehall got some pop from Janie Fagan, who doubled and drove in a a couple of runs. But the Vikings couldn’t come up with the big hit late, stranding runners in the final innings.

Game 2 was all Oakridge. The Eagles scored in every inning, including a five-run fourth that put things well out of reach. Avery Willea had a monster game, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Gracie Willea and Kylee Willea each tallied multiple hits. In total, the Eagles pounded out 15 hits and took full advantage of Whitehall’s defensive miscues.

Whitehall couldn’t keep pace offensively in Game 2, managing just four hits against a locked-in Oakridge defense. Ryleigh Smith led the way with a pair of singles, while Annabel Kewwitch and Jersie Peterson each added one hit. Despite a few base runners, the Vikings couldn’t find the timely knock to spark a rally, and Oakridge’s relentless offense sealed the sweep.

The Eagles have taken the lead in the WMC Lakes lead heading into the final week of regular season play. Their next WMC Lakes matchup is Ludington, at home.

Whitehall will take head over to Newaygo for out of conference play.
