RAVENNA — Tracy Ruel may be more demanding of his son than he is of others on Oakridge’s boys basketball team.
Peyton Ruel wouldn’t have it any other way. The Eagles sophomore knows how to respond accordingly.
The 6-foot guard stepped up when Oakridge needed him most Tuesday night in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Game of the Week. Ruel scored nine straight of his game-high 18 points during a pivotal fourth-quarter stretch that lifted Oakridge to a 58-53 victory over hosting rival Ravenna.
“The look I probably gave him was yelling at him,” said Tracy Ruel, the Eagles’ veteran coach, when asked about any signals that may have been relayed to his son indicating that it was “go time.”

- Ruel added eight assists and two steals for Oakridge.
- Ravenna led 26-23 at halftime. The game was tied at 33 at halftime.
- Oakridge sophomore Evan Miller finished with 12 points and three assists.
- Oakridge senior Matt Danicek had 10 points.
- Oakridge senior Ty Maitland and sophomore Michael Wambaugh grabbed seven rebounds apiece, while sophomore Evan Jozsa had five boards. Maitland also had two steals.
