Ravenna baseball team falls to Newaygo in tune-up for districts

Bulldogs and Lions both host district tournaments on Saturday.

RAVENNA — Visiting Newaygo defeated Ravenna on Tuesday, 9-4, in a tune-up game for the upcoming baseball districts.

Ravenna hosts a Division 3 district on Saturday, taking on Montague in the noon semifinals. North Muskegon and Kent City square off in the 10 a.m. district semifinals. The winners square off in the 2 p.m. finals.

In Division 2 district action Saturday at Newaygo, Grant faces Alma at 10 a.m., followed by Newaygo vs. Fremont at noon. The winners meet in the finals at 2 p.m.

Here are details from Tuesday’s Ravenna-Newaygo game:

  • Hunter Hogan and Chase Thomas paced Ravenna with three hits apiece.
  • Drew Mabrito had two hits for the Bulldogs, while Collin Poley and Dylan May each had one hit.
  • Josiah Long, Russell Toth, Nick Ruehmeier and Kolton Miedema had two hits apiece for Newaygo.
  • Remy Wells walked four times for the Lions.
  • Ravenna is 16-17 overall on the season.
