Spring Lake Vs. Fruitport: Rivalry Hoops – Game Preview

Two (3-1) teams look to improve their resume in a rivalry setting.

FRUITPORT – Spring Lake (3-1) and Fruitport (3-1) face off against one another on Friday night. The Lakers have wins against Ludington (2OT), GR Union, and Montague. Spring Lake’s lone loss comes to the likes of Whitehall. As for Fruitport, they hold wins against Muskegon Heights Academy (OT), Oakridge, and Montague, with its lone loss coming against Sparta.

Fruitport’s Dexter Lillmars and DayDay Williams pose a quick backcourt for the Trojans. The two lead Fruitport in scoring, Lillmars with 17 PPG and Williams with 16.5 PPG.

Hudson Hazekamp and Grade Anspach round out the Trojans’ offensive threat, with both averaging double digits.

Jaden Core leads the other side with just under 19 points per game at the guard spot. Reid Grimmer is Core’s partner in crime, adding 16 points a night for the Lakers.

Fruitport opened the season at home against Muskegon Heights Academy in an early-season thriller. The Tigers from MHA led after the first period; however, the Trojans would soon take the lead heading into the half, 24-22. Lillmars, who dropped 22 points and seven rebounds, put Fruitport over the top and led his guys to a 66-65 overtime win.

The Trojans would then suffer their first loss to Sparta the following game, 64-53. Williams finished the night with 17 points.

In another thriller in their 3rd game, Fruitport would hold off Oakridge at home, 68-65. Williams, Lillmars, and Hazekamp all finished in double digits.

Fruitport would then head north to face Montague. The game was knotted at 13 after one. Although Fruitport has too many weapons offensively, they would steal one on the road against the Wildcats.

Spring Lake, much like Fruitport, started its season in an all-time classic. Facing Ludington, Spring Lake would go into double overtime, where Core hit a big-time three in the 2nd OT. The Lakers would end the game on a 9-1 run and came away with a win to start their season.

After a blowout victory against GR Union, 68-33, which added to the win column for Spring Lake, Whitehall was waiting for them at home. Whitehall, with Thompson, Koehler, and Morningstar as its primary scorers, was too much for the Lakers, as they would drop their 3rd game of the season, 58-45.

Spring Lake would beat Montague and put them at a 3-1 record. Both Fruitport and Spring Lake have a common opponent in Montague. Both resulted in wins.

Both squads have quick backcourts that love to get to the rim.

With Core and Grimmer from Spring Lake, along with Lillmars, Williams, Hazekamp, and Anspach from Fruitport, there should be fireworks all game.
