Stacked and competitive: WMC girls soccer set for thrilling 2025 season

North Muskegon leads deep field of contenders in loaded 2025 race.

Girls’ soccer season is here! The reigning WMC champs, North Muskegon, reload while Fremont, Ludington, and Montague all pose as true contenders to win the conference.

Twenty-three all-conference first-teamers return to the league, making the conference deep and competitive.

Below are some previews of teams that have a solid shot to win the conference.

NORTH MUSKEGON NORSEMEN

The core of the Norsemen team returns, including forward Emmy Creed and midfielder Alex Johnson. North Muskegon finished (14-3-1) overall but was undefeated in conference play at (9-0-1). After a district semifinal win over Muskegon Catholic Central, the Norse were defeated in a 2-1 loss against GR NorthPointe Christian in the district final. Creed earned CatchMark SportsNet Player of the Year last season as a sophomore when she recorded 19 goals and 11 assists.

LUDINGTON ORIOLES

The Orioles are coming off a conference runner-up season in which they finished undefeated in league play. Although with four ties, Ludington shaped up in the two slot. Midfielder Madeline Billings, defender Elianna Jeruza, and keeper Cambria Britton all return to the team after receiving first-team nods in 2024. A (6-8-4) overall record gave them a tough district draw, and the Orioles fell victim to Bay City Western, 4-1. A veteran presence this season should give Ludington a slight advantage in the conference.

FREMONT PACKERS

The Packers return star forward Mia Clemence, who was on the Player of the Year ballot last season as well. Fremont finished (16-5-1, 8-2-0) in 2024 and made a deep run in the state tournament. In an overtime thriller in the district final win over Montague, Riley Chase, who will be returning this season, notched the game-winner. The Packers have more than enough firepower to compete in the WMC and make yet another run at a state title.

MONTAGUE WILDCATS

Montague returns with a deep rotation, with three all-conference first-teamers back for their senior season. Forward Ava Pelton and midfielders Addison Pranger and Addie Peterson are all players to look out for in the conference. An up-and-down 2024 resulted in a district final loss to Fremont, 2-1. The ’24 Cats finished (12-7-2, 6-3-1) and will look to improve with many starters returning.

RAVENNA BULLDOGS

Ravenna had a young team last season with mostly underclassmen. Now, with a varsity season under their belts, the Bulldogs pose a threat to make a run for a conference title. Forward Taryn Marsman, defender Olivia Emery, and keeper Monroe Wilde all earned first-team honors last season and will be a trio to watch out for yet again this season. Ravenna failed to finish over .500 last year, but with most of its production returning, they will compete for a top spot in the WMC.
