As all winter sports begin this week, so does CatchMark’s Player of the Week series. Slightly different from the Fall’s “Play of the Week,” the revamped version will allow CatchMark to highlight athletes on a larger scope.
Each poll post will include a brief synopsis of why each individual is being nominated along with some type of media (photos or videos) for each player. Nominations and voting will be released each Wednesday at 8 a.m. and voting will close Friday at noon. Shortly after, the winner of the CatchMark Player of the Week will be announced.
Without further ado, here are the nominees for the Week 1 of the CatchMark Player of the Week series. Read the description of each player’s performance and cast your vote at the bottom of the story.
Kendall Osborne, Montague
Osborne is a sophomore on Montague’s girls basketball team and had quite the performance last Friday against Oakridge. Nearing a triple double, she put up 19 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Half of Osborne’s points came in the fourth quarter, where the ‘Cats outscored the Eagles 22-12.
Jayd Hovey, Hart
Anticipated as one of the top players in the West Michigan Conference, Jayd Hovey is expected to have a remarkable overall season. In Hart’s Week 1 opener against Mason County Central, she did just that. Hovey scored 13 points and had 5 rebounds, 9 steals and 5 assists. The standout performance led the Pirates to 59-12 victory over the Spartans.
Charley Klint, Whitehall
After an excellent season on the volleyball court, Klint shifts her focus to basketball where she shines amongst the rest, yet again. The Whitehall senior opened the season with a team-high 7 points and 13 rebounds against Allendale. Later in the week, Klint tallied 16 points and 6 rebounds in Whitehall’s 39-31 league win over Ravenna.
