West Michigan Conference Football Preview 2024: Hart Pirates Season Outlook

Run it back.

The tide is turning in Hart, and the Pirates are ready to embark on a thrilling voyage. Under the guidance of fourth-year coach Joe Tanis, this year’s squad is poised to make a splash and leave their mark on the season, even as they navigate the challenges of a new era.

Last year was a historic one for the Pirates, who achieved a remarkable 9-1 record and secured their first-ever playoff win. However, this season brings a significant shift as they bid farewell to an impactful senior class. These graduates, many of whom had been contributing to the varsity program since their freshman year, leave behind a legacy of success and big shoes to fill. Importantly the team lost Connor Edwards, who was the center point of a highly efficient offense.

This changing of the guard presents a wealth of opportunities for younger players to step up and shine. The Pirates will be looking to fresh faces to carry the torch and continue the momentum from last year’s historic run. Most of which, will come on the O-line. It’s will be a chance for these emerging athletes to prove their mettle and write their own chapter in the storied history of Hart football.

Key Players to Watch:

Halen Boo, Junior, QB: The maestro of the Pirates’ two-quarterback scheme, Halen Boo finds himself at the helm of a youthful squad hungry for continued success. The weight of expectations rests heavily on his shoulders as he navigates the complexities of leading a varsity offense. Boo’s ability to command the huddle, make smart decisions, and deliver accurate throws will be paramount to the Pirates’ fortunes this season. He’ll need to be the spark that ignites their attack and keeps them sailing towards victory.

Kyle Greiner, Junior, RB: A seasoned veteran who gained valuable experience last year, Kyle Greiner is ready to shoulder the load in the Pirates’ rushing attack. His combination of vision, agility, and power makes him a reliable workhorse capable of churning out tough yards between the tackles. Greiner’s consistency will be vital for the Pirates to sustain drives and control the clock. Don’t be surprised if he breaks loose for a few highlight-reel runs, adding an explosive element to the offense.

Colt Rockwell, Freshman, QB: A tantalizing prospect with a bright future, Colt Rockwell is poised to make an immediate impact despite his freshman status. Thrust into the varsity spotlight, Rockwell will need to adapt quickly to the heightened intensity and faster pace of the game. While sharing duties with Boo, he’ll be eager to showcase his raw talent and prove he belongs. Keep a close eye on this rising star, as his development could shape the Pirates’ long-term success and usher in a new era of gridiron dominance.

The Pirates will take on a week one Lake City (August 29th, 2024).

The pressure is on, following such a remarkable season. The Pirates will undoubtedly be facing high expectations from fans and opponents alike. But this team is hungry to demonstrate that last year’s success was no fluke. They’re determined to show that Hart football is a force to be reckoned with, and they’re ready to embrace the challenge of building upon their recent achievements.
