West Michigan Conference Football Preview 2024: Montague Wildcats Season Outlook

Reloaded and Ready to Reign

Under the relentless August sun, on the hallowed ground of the Randy Jacobs Memorial Practice field, the Montague Wildcats are forging a new era. The echoes of last season’s struggles linger, but Coach Justin Dennett’s squad is not dwelling on the past. A sense of urgency and determination crackles in the air as they prepare to reclaim their place among the state’s elite.

The challenges are formidable. The departure of key players, including star quarterback Mason Darke, has left gaps to fill. But fresh talent is rising, eager to prove their worth. Specifically in the QB position, Eli Peterson will take up the helm.

According to Coach Dennett a key to their success this year will be consistency, saying, “I think we just got to be more consistent overall. Last year we showed some signs of that. We can be a pretty good team. We just didn’t do it week in and week out. It’s just the daily competition gets better and better each day and being more consistent.”

The road to redemption won’t be easy. But in Montague, the tradition of excellence runs deep. The Wildcats are ready to claw their way back to the top, fueled by the fire within and the unwavering support of their community.

Montague’s first match will be on the road against a gritty Forest Hills Eastern squad.
