West Michigan Conference Football Preview 2024: North Muskegon’s Season Outlook

Forging a Saga of Valor and Victory

As the warmth of summer surrenders to autumn’s embrace, a familiar chill creeps into the air, painting the landscape with vibrant hues of crimson and gold. The days, once stretching endlessly, now yield to the encroaching twilight, casting a sense of anticipation over the land. It’s a time of transformation, a season of change, and for the athletes of North Muskegon, a call to battle echoes through the crisp air.

Last year, the Norsemen embarked on a thrilling playoff odyssey, propelled by the dynamic leadership of then-junior quarterback James Young. Their journey culminated in a hard-fought regional final against Pewamo-Westphalia, giving North Muskegon the regional title. The departure of Young leaves a void that many consider irreplaceable, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the Norsemen’s prospects. Now, the question looms large: how will the team navigate the uncharted waters of a new season without the linchpin of their offense?

As evident from practice, Coach Larry Witham has instilled the idea of the next man up, and, while Young’s shoes are big, someone’s hungry to fill them. Emphasizing, that when opportunity knocks, in this program, you answer.

The Norseman’s season opener is set for August 29th against Pewamo-Westphalia, who they defeated in the regional final last year.

Despite losing a key player, the Norsemen are ready for battle. With a new quarterback leading the charge and a largely returning squad, the team is eager to kick off the season against the Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates.
