Week 7 roundup highlights Pirates coach Joe Tanis, who skipped game for wife’s college Hall of Fame induction.

With Hart head coach Joe Tanis gone supporting wife Jilanna’s induction into the Olivet College Athletic Hall of Fame Friday night, the Pirates’ assistant coaches guided the team to a 53-0 victory over visiting Holton in a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division football game.

Trayce Tate led Hart (5-2, 3-1 WMC Rivers) with 95 rushing yards and three TDs on 12 carries. Connor Edwards had 71 yards and two TDs on just four carries, while Eman Hertzler and Austin Martinez also scored TDs in the Pirates’ balanced rushing attack.

Hart quarterback Trenton Swihart completed both of his passes for 65 yards.

Adrian Tice led the Pirates defensively with five solo tackles, an assist and two fumble recoveries.

No stats were submitted for Holton, which is 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the WMC Rivers.

Next Friday, Hart has its homecoming game against Hesperia and Holton hosts North Muskegon.

MANISTEE 54, SHELBY 7: Manistee got its running game in gear and ran away from visiting Shelby in a WMC nondivisional game. It snapped Shelby’s first two-game winning streak since 2014.

The Chippewas (4-3 overall) rushed for 395 yards and seven touchdowns on 34 carries, good for an average of 11.6 per carry.

Isaiah Davis paced Manistee with a game-high 133 rushing yards and two TDs on seven carries. Kanon Petzak had 91 yards and two TDs on seven carries, Kaden Kott finished with 81 yards and two TDs on seven attempts, and Nick Hornkohl added a scoring run.

Hornkohl paced the Chippewas defensively with eight tackles and an interception, while Caius Johns made seven stops and Davis five tackles.

Shelby’s lone TD came on Travis Boughan’s 17-yard scoring pass to Bishop Lee, who made five receptions for 70 yards.

AJ Melchor led the Tigers (2-5) on the ground with 24 yards on four carries, plus he paced the defense with six tackles.

Next Friday, Manistee hosts Montague and Shelby welcomes Mason County Central.

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 50, HESPERIA 0: Peyton Merz rushed for a game-high 125 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries to power Mason County Central to a homecoming victory over Hesperia.

The Spartans (2-5, 2-3 WMC Rivers) scored 29 second-quarter points to take command of the game.

Will Chye completed 6 of 12 passes for 91 yards, including a 26-yard TD to Landon Smith. Chye also intercepted two passes on defense, while Merz had a pick and a fumble recovery.

Jayden Perrone scored a rushing TD for MCC, which outgained Hesperia 308-76, including 217-5 on the ground.

No stats were submitted for Hesperia (1-6, 0-4).

Next Friday, Mason County Central travels to Shelby and Hesperia heads to Hart.
