MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 54, HOLTON 32: Host Mason County Central shot 48 percent from the floor and overcome a double-double by Holton’s Ryann Robins in this WMC Rivers opener for both teams.

“Proud of the defensive intensity in the second half,” MCC coach Brian Beebe said. “Robins is a very good player and was able to score the ball in a variety of ways, but we did a good job of getting ball pressure and forcing some mistakes which we took advantage of.

“Holton does a good job with their half-court zone defense and we at times were a bit too stagnant against it, but we found a way to get some transition looks as the game wore along.”

NORTH MUSKEGON 56, HESPERIA 14: Host North Muskegon outscored Hesperia 19-0 in the first quarter and rode that momentum to victory in this WMC Rivers Division contest.

“We had a great team effort tonight with really balanced scoring and tough defense,” North Muskegon coach Jill Young said. ‘Our bench was amazing — they all scored and, again, the leadership of the seniors and junior captain Kaylee Martin managing our offense made the difference.”
