West Michigan Conference wrestling: Roundup from Dec. 10, 2022

West Michigan Conference wrestling teams competed in various invitationals or tournaments on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022.

Here are notables emailed by coaches as well as photos shared by Stephanie Moore. Teams are listed alphabetically below:

FREMONT

Fremont finished runner-up with a 4-1 team record in the Kent City Kickoff Classic on Saturday, falling only to Division 1 eighth-ranked Rockford (58-14). This Wednesday (Dec. 14),

Fremont hosts a tri-meet with West Michigan Conference opponents Montague and Whitehall. Fremont is coached by Craig Zeerip, while sons Justin and Collin Zeerip coach Whitehall. The tri-meet starts at 5 p.m.

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL

Mason County Central finished third in the Optimist Invite that it hosted Saturday. The Spartans went 3-2 on the day. Allendale defeated Benzie Central in the finals.

MONTAGUE

Twenty Montague wrestlers competed in the 13-team Hemlock tournament on Saturday. The Wildcats placed third behind team champion Midland and runner-up Lakeland.

We had 20 wrestlers total go down to the Hemlock tournament that was host to 13 teams, counting Montague.

132 pounds: Chris Aebig, won championship

150: Tristan Winkleblack, finalist

157: Michael Moore, finalist

OAKRIDGE

Oakridge placed second in the Saranac Red Hawk Duals on Saturday. The Eagles finished 4-1, earning their first dual victory since their program was revived last year. Several wrestlers picked up their first wrestling victories.

RAVENNA

Ravenna finished eighth among 14 schools at the Manton Invite on Saturday.

WHITEHALL

Whitehall sent two groups of wrestlers to compete Saturday at the Tri County Team Invitational, where the Vikings’ “A” team posted a 5-0 record. In Whitehall’s toughest team of the day, the Vikings defeated eighth-ranked Kingsley 35-30. In a battle of invite unbeatens in the finals, Whitehall rolled past Sparta, 55-21.
