West Michigan Conference wrestling: See who is advancing to 2023 individual state finals

Between boys and girls wrestlers from the conference, 36 advancing to state finals at Ford Field.

Twenty-eight boys wrestlers from the West Michigan Conference placed in the top four of individual regionals Saturday (Feb. 18, 2023) and earned berths in the MHSAA individual state finals March 3-4 at Ford Field in Detroit.

Eight girls wrestlers from the conference placed in the top four of individual regionals Sunday (Feb. 19, 2023) and punched their tickets to the MHSAA individual state finals, also March 3-4 at Ford Field.

Here are the results from Saturday’s boys regionals for top-four finishers from the conference and Sunday’s girls regionals for top-four finishers from the conference:

BOYS WRESTLING

DIVISION 2 AT LOWELL

In a Division 2 individual regional at Lowell, Fremont advanced three wrestlers to the individual state finals.

First-place finisher: Fremont’s Michael Romero (190)

Second-place finisher: Fremont’s Tee Ward (138)

DIVISION 3 AT BELDING

In a Division 3 individual regional at Belding, Whitehall advanced five wrestlers to the individual state finals, while Montague and Orchard View advanced two each.

Whitehall’s wrestling coaches also earned Regional Coach of the Year honors at Belding.

In a Division 3 individual regional at Grayling, Hart advanced six wrestlers to the individual state finals, while Mason County Central advanced two and Shelby one.

REGIONAL AT GRAYLING

In a girls wrestling regional Sunday at Grayling, Montague placed three in the top four and advanced them to the individual state finals at Ford Field. Fremont advanced two, while Holton, Mason County Central and Manistee advanced one each.

Montague’s Andrew Nold, who has taken ownership of the Wildcats’ girls wrestling program, was named Assistant Regional Coach of the Year.
