WMC boys basketball: Whitehall, Ravenna still tied at top after thrilling road wins

It was a big night in the West Michigan Conference boys basketball race Thursday. The biggest of games lived up to their billing.

In the CatchMark SportsNet Game of the Week, Whitehall used another double-double from freshman Camden Thompson for a hard-earned road win over rival Montague, 52-46.

Elsewhere, Ravenna’s Kyle Beebe went off for 28 points to lead the Bulldogs to a thrilling 58-53 win at North Muskegon.

WHITEHALL 52, MONTAGUE 46: At Montague, the visiting Vikings remained tied for first place with Ravenna atop the league standings after a hard-fought win over the rival Wildcats in the Game of the Week. Whitehall went 21-of-29 from the free-throw line compared to 9-of-15 for Montague. The Vikings outrebounded the Wildcats, 39-29. Whitehall completed the season sweep of Montague, having beaten the Wildcats 53-43 on Jan. 4 at Whitehall.

RAVENNA 58, NORTH MUSKEGON 53: At North Muskegon, Kyle Beebe hit four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points as the visiting Bulldogs kept pace with Whitehall atop the conference standings. Ravenna avenged a 56-41 home loss to North Muskegon from Jan. 4. The ’Dogs finished 10-of-25 from 3-point range and outrebounded the Norse, 32-23.

SHELBY 49, HART 44: At Shelby, the host Tigers built a 23-11 halftime lead and stretched the advantage to 16 in the third quarter before they went on to earn the season sweep of the rival Pirates.

OAKRIDGE 72, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 60: At Mason County Central, the visiting Eagles outscored the Spartans 44-21 over the middle two quarters and earned their third straight win. Oakridge made nine 3-pointers.
