WMC roundup for 2023 boys soccer districts: Oakridge beats Belding for finals berth

Oakridge will face Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Thursday with chance to win third district title in four yers.

Oakridge’s boys soccer team has an opportunity to earn its third district championship in four years.

Oakridge put itself in that position with a 5-1 victory over visiting Belding in a Division 3 district semifinal Monday (Oct. 16) at Russell A. Erickson Stadium.

Oakridge (12-7-1) will take on Grand Rapids Catholic Central (10-9) in the district finals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. GRCC defeated Comstock Park, 4-1, in the other district semifinal Monday.

In Oakridge’s win Monday, Landon Meacher got the Eagles on the board on a penalty kick. Belding (5-13-1) evened the score at 1 eight minutes later, but it was all Oakridge after that.

Arturo Romero-Serrano tallied two goals to give him 42 on the season and 105 in his career. Dallas Meyers and Pablo Montesinos also scored goals for the Eagles. Meyers notched a pair of assists, while Logan McHaney and Romero-Serrano assisted on goals.

Isaac Willard made five saves in net for Oakridge.
