WMC wrestling: Ravenna tops Oakridge, falls to host Hesperia in tune-up action

Bulldogs, Eagles compete in advance of Saturday’s conference tournament.

Ravenna’s and Oakridge’s wrestling teams took part in a tune-up meet Wednesday in advance of Saturday’s West Michigan Conference tournament.

At the Hesperia Pink-Out, the Bulldogs defeated the Eagles in the opening match, 46-6, then fell to the host Panthers 42-39 in their second match.

In other matches, Lakeview defeated Oakridge 75-6 and beat Hesperia 48-28.

Ravenna wrestlers who went 2-0 on the day included Damien Stafford, Ulrich Heinreichsberger, Zeke Thompson, Juan Castillo, Brenden Forsythe and Landen Goerbig.

The West Michigan Conference tournament is being hosted by Montague Saturday with a start time of 9 a.m.

Hesperia will be joining the conference beginning in the 2022-23 school year.
