‘Hot Seat:’ Montague’s congenial Lauren Smith dashes through pressing questions

Tate Stine chases down speedy member of Wildcats’ record-setting relay team.

MONTAGUE – CatchMark SportsNet’s Tate Stine recently found himself back in Montague interviewing another standout student-athlete for the Wildcats.

Stine met up with Lauren Smith, a sprinter and member Montague’s lightning-fast 4×200-meter relay team that won the state championship last year.

Smith has been a member of a few different relay teams that boast record times, including a 4×200 relay quartet that broke the record from a year ago. Smith was also a member of that relay during the 2022 season.

While track and field is probably Smith’s favorite sport in which she participates, she stays active in the fall and winter as well. Smith played guard and forward for the basketball team and she continued to improve each year for the girls golf squad.

Smith and her Wildcats track and field team are still in the early part of their season. They’ll be back in action again today at the eighth annual Kent City Elite Invitational.
