Oakridge’s Brenna Cabrera slugs her way to CatchMark SportsNet Player of the Week

Brenna Cabrera has provided a lot of punch to the Oakridge softball team’s lineup this season.

This week, voters gave her the boost she needed.

Cabrera is the winner of the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll, which recognized six student-athletes for their performances during sports events that took place April 17-22, 2023.

Cabrera finished with 1,222 of 3,727 total votes in the poll. Manistee golfer Max Scharp was runner-up in the poll with 886 votes.

Cabrera, a sophomore third baseman who bats third in the order, continued to hit the ball well last week.

In a 13-4 West Michigan Conference Lakes Division win over visiting Whitehall last Tuesday, Cabrera doubled twice and finished with three hits. In a nonleague sweep on the road against Byron Center last Thursday (6-5 and 10-3 wins), Cabrera homered and drove in two in Game 1 and hit a three-run homer in Game 2.
