Looking Back: Highlights from the 2024 OK-Green Football Season

Can Muskegon bounce back in 2025? Will Mona Shores and Byron Center replicate 2024?

The OK-Green supplied us with one of the best conferences in the state of Michigan last season, featuring some of the notable powerhouses we see year in and year out. Many of the players who competed in the conference, and specifically those on teams in our coverage area (Muskegon, Reeths-Puffer, and Mona Shores), are heading on to the next level to continue their football careers.

Final Standings

  1. Mona Shores (8-1, 5-0)
  2. Byron Center (8-1, 4-1)
  3. Muskegon (3-5, 3-2)
  4. Forest Hills Northern (4-5, 2-3)
  5. Reeths-Puffer (2-7, 1-4)
  6. Grand Rapids Union (1-8, 1-4)

The Sailors took the league outright when they defeated both Muskegon and the runner-up, Byron Center, in the regular season. It was their first conference title since 2020 and only suffered one out-of-conference loss to Toledo Central 14-13.

It was Byron Center, however, who got the last laugh in the district final, defeating Mona Shores 30-23 and avenging its week four loss. The Bulldogs would go on to compete in the Division two state final after blowing out Portage Central and East Lansing. Though it was Orchard Lake St. Mary’s who took care of Byron Center 35-19.

Muskegon was possibly the most disappointing team in the league and potentially all of Division two after winning just three games and missing out on the playoffs. Granted, the Big Reds faced one of the toughest schedules in the program’s existence.

Forest Hills Northern put together a solid campaign in a tough league, as Reeths-Puffer and GR Union were bottom feeders most of the season.
