Area Golfers Shine in 2025 State Honors

Several local standouts from the lakeshore area earned statewide recognition this season as the Michigan High School Golf Coaches Association released its 2025 Girls Golf All-State Awards. Players from Reeths-Puffer, Whitehall, Montague, and North Muskegon were among those honored for their strong performances on the course this fall.

Reeths-Puffer’s McCollum Named to Super Team

Sophia McCollum, a junior at Reeths-Puffer High School, was named to the prestigious Super Team, the highest level of individual recognition given statewide. Coached by Matt Pallett, McCollum’s consistent play and mental toughness led the Rockets throughout the season. Her placement among the state’s elite puts her in rare company and marks one of the top individual golf honors in Reeths-Puffer history.

Whitehall’s Shafer Earns All-State Honorable Mention

Representing Whitehall Sr. High School, Riley Shafer earned Division III All-State Honorable Mention under coach Bill Borgman. Shafer’s steady improvement across the season helped Whitehall post several strong tournament finishes and kept the Vikings competitive against larger programs.

Montague’s Fox and Smith Both Recognized

The Montague Wildcats celebrated a pair of honorees this year.

  • Cadence Fox was selected to the Division IV All-State Team,
  • While Addi Smith earned Division IV Honorable Mention honors.

Both golfers, coached by Phil Kerr, were key contributors to Montague’s success and showcased the program’s depth and talent.

North Muskegon’s Sheler Earns State Nod

Grace Sheler, representing North Muskegon High School, rounded out the area’s award winners with a Division IV All-State Honorable Mention. Coached by Pat VanTol, Sheler brought consistency and leadership to the Norse lineup, helping lift the team’s profile across West Michigan.

A Strong Season for West Michigan Girls Golf

From the greens of Montague to the fairways of Reeths-Puffer, these athletes showcased the best of West Michigan golf — dedication, composure, and competitive spirit. Their statewide recognition reflects not just individual excellence but also the growing strength of local girls’ golf programs.
