It’s been a busy stretch of girls soccer across the area, but Fruitport has emerged as one of the most compelling stories.
The Trojans opened the season with a strong 7-0 win over Hart before running into early challenges, falling 1-0 to Spring Lake and 5-0 to Forest Hills Eastern. Instead of slowing them down, those games became a turning point.
Since then, Fruitport has found its rhythm, and its identity.
The Trojans are now riding a six-game winning streak, highlighted by a 7-0 victory over Montague in which they built a 4-0 halftime lead and never looked back. During the streak, Fruitport has not allowed a single goal, outscoring opponents 23-0.
That success has been built on a disciplined defensive effort led by goalkeeper Ava Powell, combined with a balanced offense that continues to produce from multiple spots on the field. The result is a team that is no longer just competing, but consistently controlling matches.
The improvement is noticeable compared to last season, with stronger performances against familiar opponents and more decisive results overall.
Looking ahead, the remaining schedule will provide key tests against teams like NorthPointe Christian, Calvin Christian, Fremont and Reeths-Puffer. Based on current form, Fruitport is well-positioned in several of those matchups, though a few could go either way.
If the Trojans continue at this level, they are on track for a strong finish and could be a team to watch as the postseason approaches.
