Shelby Edges Field at Benona Shores; North Muskegon Takes Wildcat Invitational Title

Two competitive invitationals highlighted the week on the links, with Shelby and North Muskegon emerging as team champions. Shelby narrowly captured the Benona Shores Invitational behind a standout, medalist performance from Titan Carter, while North Muskegon followed with a strong showing at the Wildcat Invitational, led by Luke Jones. Both events featured deep fields and impressive individual rounds, setting the tone for a competitive stretch of the season ahead.

Benona Shores Invitational (Hosted by Shelby)

Shelby delivered a strong performance on its home course, winning the Benona Shores Invitational with a team score of 289, just two strokes ahead of runner-up Oakridge (291).

Titan Carter led the charge for the Tigers, earning medalist honors in dramatic fashion. Carter shot a one-over par 61 and won a playoff by sinking a 20-foot birdie putt, capping off a round that included two birdies and an eagle. His eagle came on the par-4 16th hole and proved to be a key moment in his round.

Shelby’s depth played a major role in securing the team title. Rafael Davis Jr. tied for fifth place with a 69, highlighted by two birdies, while Ivan Carter added a 70. Ryan Schouten rounded out the scoring with an 89.

Other notable performances included Alex Scott leading Hesperia with a 72, followed by Logan Kammer (78), Taylor Ackerberg (80), and Evan Fuentes (82). Hart was led by Hunter Loudermilk, who shot a 78 and closed his round with back-to-back birdies, while Wyatt Johnson (80), Logan Dean (81), and Braydan Baron (84) contributed to the team score.

For Pentwater, Gavin Macher led with an 87, while Izzabella Kolenda and Aiden Henry each posted rounds of 90.

Wildcat Invitational (Hosted by Montague at Old Channel Trail)

North Muskegon captured the team title at the Wildcat Invitational with a score of 328, finishing ahead of Whitehall (335) and Montague (340).

Luke Jones of North Muskegon earned medalist honors with an even-par 71, leading a competitive field and helping secure the team victory.

Whitehall placed second with a 335, followed closely by Montague at 340. Shelby finished fourth (346), with Hart (362) rounding out the top five.

Further down the leaderboard, Whitehall B posted a 373, Pentwater shot a 384, and Mason County Central finished at 386. North Muskegon B (389) and Montague B (400) completed the team standings.

Among the top individual finishers behind Jones were Titan Carter of Shelby (75), Jones McDowell of Whitehall (76), Ivan Carter of Shelby (76), and Montague’s Michael Flanagan (78). Additional top-10 performances included Owen Rop (North Muskegon) and Ethan Balon (Montague) with rounds of 83, along with Rafael Davis Jr. (Shelby) and Bobby Orwat (Montague), who each shot 85. Logan Dean (Hart), Rylan Johnson (Whitehall), and Gabe Gilbert (Whitehall) rounded out the top group with scores of 86.
