Boys Basketball Recap January 14th/15th: North Muskegon remains unbeaten with win over Oakridge

Bledsoe gets number 1000, Mona Shores and Fruitport both heat up with winning streaks.

North Muskegon 70 – Oakridge 48

The end score doesn’t do much justice for the Eagles, especially after their first half. The game was knotted at 17 all after one. Soon after North Muskegon took a three-point lead heading into the half. The Norse started heating up coming out of the locker room and jumped to commanding lead going into the fourth quarter. Oakridge wouldn’t be able to overcome a 16-point deficit and fell victim to a 70-48 North Muskegon win. Adam Dugener held the game-high of 21 points for North Muskegon. Evan Jozsa put up 18 points and Peyton scored 14 for Oakridge in the loss.

Mona Shores 56 – Jenison 42

Senior Jordan Bledsoe entered the Sailor record book Tuesday night, eclipsing 1,000 career points. Bledsoe finished with 10 points and three assists. Landyn Smith, however, led Mona Shores with 14 points and eight rebounds. Jonathan Pittman and Ryan Opsommer recorded double-digit points each for the Sailors. With the win, Mona Shores has now won its last four contests and now sit with a 5-7, 2-1 record.

Grand Haven 70 – Grandville 66

Grand Haven’s leading scorer, Will Plummer, nailed seven clutch free throws down the stretch to help the Bucs move to 8-3 on the season. Grandville led 34-29 at the half, but the lead quickly diminished as soon as the third quarter started when Alex Dixon caught fire and scored nine points in the quarter for the Bucs. Grand Haven went into the fourth with the lead and didn’t give it up. Will Korenstra added 14 points and Amani Frierson picked up 12 in the win.

Spring Lake 50 – Zeeland West 46

The Lakers had three guys enter double digits. Reid Grimmer with 13, Jaden Core added 11, and Jacob Ayers contributed 10 points. Though winless, Zeeland West put up a valiant effort in the loss. After taking a seven-point lead to close out the first quarter, the Dux would soon give it up and trail for the rest of the game. Spring Lake adds to its win column, having seven wins to four losses.

Fruitport 56 – Godwin Heights 54

The Trojans are starting to heat up at the midway point of the season picking up their fourth straight win. Freshman Dexter Lillmars led all scorers with an impressive 26-point game. Fruitport led for most of the night, but Godwin Heights does not give up any free wins. Sticking close to the Trojans hip all game, the Wolverines closed within just two points at halftime. DayDay Williams complimented Lillmars with a 13-point performance. Grade Anspach also chipped in with seven points of his own.

Montague 59 – Ravenna 52

Montague earned a hard-fought 59-52 victory over Ravenna last night (January 15th). Kellan Francis led the charge with 18 points, supported by Cole Herremans with 16 and Courtland Schneider adding 11. Montague came out strong, scoring 17 points in the first quarter, but Ravenna battled back to take a slim halftime lead. The Wildcats regained control in the second half, delivering a dominant fourth quarter to secure the W. Key defensive stops and clutch offensive plays in the final moments sealed the game.

Fremont 57 – Muskegon Heights 51

The second double-overtime thriller of the season, covered by CatchMark SportsNet, saw the Fremont edge out the Muskegon Heights in Packer-land with a final score of 57-51. Coming into the game with a 2-9 record, Fremont was hungry for a win to gain momentum heading into the second half of the season. The game was a nail-biter throughout, with neither team able to pull away. At the end of regulation, the score was knotted at 39, and the story repeated in the first overtime with a 44-44 tie. In the second overtime, Fremont finally found a slight edge, holding onto their lead to secure the win. They now improve to 3-9 and will be looking for another win over Manistee later this week.
