Boys Basketball weekend recap: Whitehall retains rivalry trophy, Muskegon fends off Reeths-Puffer

Stay tuned for updated standings this Friday.

Whitehall 72 – Montague 28

Camden Thompson accounted for 23 points and 14 rebounds on Friday night. That marks Thompson’s 29th consecutive double-double. Junior Corde Anderson scored 10 points to go along with his seven rebounds. The Vikings have now won the last 13 meetings and successfully defended the Battle of the Bridge trophy.

Muskegon 67 – Reeths-Puffer 48

Reeths-Puffer’s Marvin Moore and Brayden Mitchelson kept the Big Reds on their heels all night. Moore and Mitchelson both finished with 17 points. Muskegon caught fire late in the first half and jumped to a 30-24 lead at halftime. Led by Keashaun Johnson’s 32-point performance, the Big Reds held on to beat rival RP.

Ravenna 52 – Shelby 49

In a game that was expected to not be close, it ended up as somewhat of a confidence booster for the Tigers heading into the last month of the season. The first time the two met this season, Ravenna beat Shelby by double digits. Since then, the Tigers have gone 2-8 and currently sit in 5th place in the WMC Rivers. Ravenna trailed 29-22 at halftime. Trevor Weiss notched eight first-half points for Shelby. The Bulldogs came out of the half, led by Dylan May and Nash Hoffman, to overcome the halftime deficit and steal one at home.

Oakridge 71 – Ludington 56

The number two and number three ranked teams in the WMC Lakes standings faced off on Friday. Ludington came into the night in second place, while Oakridge was third. Trailing by just one game, the Eagles entered a must-win contest on the road. Oakridge started the game hot and continued the scoring through four quarters. Bryson Stephenson scored 24 points, followed by Evan Miller with 15 and Peyton Ruel with 10 for Oakridge. The Orioles, trailing by 17 points at the half, proved to be too much and fell victim at home on Friday.
