Girls Basketball weekend recap: Montague girls beat Whitehall for second time, Reeths-Puffer narrowly beats Muskegon

Stay tuned for updated standings this Friday.

Montague 39 – Whitehall 35

The Montague girls’ hoops team came to Whitehall Friday night and used a variety of scorers to take down rival Whitehall for the second time this season. Montague led 18-17 at the half and came out of the locker room on a 10-2 run led by senior Braylyn Bultema. With just two points scored by Whitehall in the 3rd quarter, they bounced back in the 4th with 16 points. However, the nine-point deficit proved to be too much for the Vikings. Bultema finished with 14, followed by Addie Peterson and Addison Pranger with eight points apiece.

Reeths-Puffer 30 – Muskegon 27

Just six total points were scored after the first quarter, with Muskegon leading 4-2. Both teams left many points on the table, shooting a combined 14-37 from the free-throw line. The Big Reds led 13-10 at the half. Reeths-Puffer was led by Raquel Richards, who scored 10 points in the win. Ashlyn Davis and Grace Tindall followed Richards in the box score with eight and five points, respectively. Jaila Martin finished with a double-double in the loss for Muskegon.

Spring Lake 42 – Hudsonville Unity Christian 35

Led by Ellie Wrona’s 22-point performance, Spring Lake was able to fend off a pesky Unity Christian squad. The game looked all but over after the first quarter, with the Lakers leading 16-2. The Crusaders used the 2nd and 3rd quarters to mount a comeback; however, Spring Lake played well enough down the stretch to add to the win column at (7-4, 3-2).

Mona Shores 42 – Caledonia 38

The Sailors secured their 10th win of the season with a gritty performance over conference foe Caledonia. After leading for most of the game, a huge third quarter from the Fighting Scots knotted the game heading into the fourth. While Caledonia gave Shores fits, a great defensive stand in the last eight minutes by the Sailors led to them defending their home court. Logan Clausen led Mona Shores with 16 points, while Katie Phillips followed closely with 15 of her own.
