Boys regional golf roundup 2023 for West Michigan Conference

Manistee will be lone team from league represented at state finals.

Four West Michigan Conference boys golf teams were represented in a Division 2 regional Wednesday at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, while four other squads competed in a Division 3 regional at The Falls at Barber Creek in Kent City.

In MHSAA golf regionals, the top three teams advance to the state finals as well as top three individuals not part of qualifying squads.

Here is a roundup of the action:

DIVISION 2 AT KATKE

Whitehall was the top team finisher from the conference in the Division 2 regional at Katke. The Vikings finished seventh with a team score of 343.

Ludington placed 13th with 359, while Fremont was 14th with 372. Orchard View had three participants there, but not enough to register a team score.

Forest Hills Eastern won the regional title with 316, followed by Forest Hills Central (322) and Big Rapids (324).

Grand Rapids Northview’s William Pollack earned medalist honors with an even-par 72. Whitehall’s Landon Griffin was the top finisher from the West Michigan Conference with an 82, which tied him for 23rd. Ludington’s Alec Rodenbeck tied for 25th with an 83. Whitehall’s Corbin Vanderstelt tied for 31st with an 85.

DIVISION 3 AT THE FALLS

Montague was the top team finisher from the conference in the Division 3 regional at The Falls. The Wildcats placed seventh with a team score of 375.

North Muskegon finished 10th at 395, while Oakridge was 12th (406) and Ravenna 17th (453).

Grand Rapids Catholic Central rolled to the regional title with a team score of 317. Grand Rapids Covenant Christian was runner-up (336), while Grand Rapids West Catholic took third (338).

GRCC’s Will Preston collected medalist honors with a 3-under 69.

North Muskegon’s Avery Freeland was the top individual finisher from the conference, tying for 10th with an 85. Montague’s Owen Raeth and Trevin Silvers and North Muskegon’s Logan Pike were among five golfers tied for 13th with 86s. Oakridge’s Travis Lewis placed 18th with an 87.
