Cross country teams hurdle to the finish line in the 2023 Hill and Bale Invitational

FREMONT The picturesque trails of Fremont played host to an exhilarating cross country race, showcasing the incredible talents of young athletes from various schools in the region. The competition was fierce, and the spectators were treated to a spectacular display of determination, endurance, and speed. CatchMark SportsNet was onsite to document the race highlights.

Girls Red Division

Fruitport Claims Team Victory

In a highly competitive field of schools, the Fruitport girls’ cross country team emerged victorious, securing the top spot in the official team scores with a total of 50 points.

Chloe DeRidder Triumphs as Individual Champion

In a close finish, Grandville’s Chloe DeRidder managed to secure the top spot with a time of 20:10.26, narrowly edging out Fruitport’s Tatum Dykstra, who clocked in at 20:12.12. DeRidder’s determination and tenacity were evident throughout the race as she dug deep to secure the victory. Cami Kraai of Whitehall, Linnea Paige of Fremont, and Emma Steele of Vicksburg rounded out the top five medalists in a competitive event.

Muskegon Western Mich. Christian Secures Team Victory

Muskegon Western Mich. Christian’s girls’ cross country team showcased their dominance, taking the top spot in the official team scores with an impressive 20 points.

Grace VanderKooi Shines as Individual Champion

In the individual race, one name stood out—Grace VanderKooi from Muskegon Western Mich. Christian. VanderKooi delivered a mesmerizing performance, crossing the finish line with a commanding lead and an impressive time of 20:00.19 that was good for the fastest overall woman’s time. Her victory not only showcased her skill but also added crucial points to her team’s victory.

Boys Red Division

Allendale Claims Victory in Team Standings

Allendale’s boys’ cross country team left no room for doubt, securing the top spot in the official team scores with an impressive 35 points.

Sean Pettis Triumphs as Individual Champion

In the individual race, Sean Pettis from Fremont emerged as the champion, delivering a remarkable performance. Pettis displayed incredible determination and speed, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 16:35.51. His victory not only earned him individual recognition but also aided his team’s overall score.

Boys White Division

Muskegon Western Mich. Christian Claims Victory in Team Standings

Muskegon Western Mich. Christian’s boys’ cross country team emerged triumphant, securing the top spot in the official team scores with 43 points.

Jackson Rodriguez Shines as Individual Champion

In the individual race, it was Jackson Rodriguez from Wyoming Potter’s House who seized the championship title. Rodriguez displayed an impressive mix of speed and stamina, crossing the finish line with a time of 17:43.27. His victory was well-earned and showcased his commitment to the sport.
