Joe Coletta has seen many great athletes during his years as an assistant football coach and head softball coach at Oakridge High School.
Very few, if any, have been better than Sophia Wiard, in his opinion.
Wiard and Coletta reunited Monday as guests on the CatchMark SportsNet Podcast, presented by VanDyk Mortgage.

Wiard, a 2019 Oakridge alumna, is the school’s all-time leading scorer in basketball and she also was an all-state performer for Coletta in softball.
Wiard is a starting guard for the University of Toledo women’s basketball team, which is coming off a 29-6 season. The Rockets tied a program record for most wins in a season and they set a Mid-American Conference record for most conference wins in a single season with 19 as they captured the regular-season title.
Coletta retired from Oakridge as a longtime teacher and coach. He returned this season to lead the Eagles’ softball program, which is ranked No. 6 in Division 2.
