Duo leads Whitehall to tuneup win over Sparta in boys basketball; Montague game next

Camden Thompson, Camar Ready combine for 45 points, 27 rebounds in Vikings’ 66-58 victory.

No way was Whitehall looking past Sparta in Tuesday’s nonleague boys basketball game, not after the Spartans took down the Vikings by double-digits last season.

Led by the one-two punch of Camden Thompson and Camar Ready, Whitehall took command early and came away with a 66-58 victory over Sparta.

Thompson, a 6-foot-5 junior wing, finished with game highs of 26 points and 19 rebounds to go with five assists, three steals, and one block. Ready, a 5-11 senior guard, totaled 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

It was a nice tune-up for Thursday, as Whitehall (3-0) visits arch-rival Montague (4-1) in a key West Michigan Conference Lakes Division matchup. The Vikings are 1-0 in the WMC Lakes, while the Wildcats are 1-1.

Sparta defeated Whitehall in the Vikings’ third game last year, 81-68.

Whitehall senior wing DJ Jamison added eight points, three rebounds, and two steals.

No individual stats were submitted for Sparta (2-2).

Whitehall shot 40 percent from the floor (26-of-65) and 19 percent from 3-point range (3-for-16). Sparta finished 43 percent from the field (19-of-44) and 33 percent from beyond the arc (9-for-27).

Whitehall outrebounded Sparta, 37-26.
