Fremont basketball’s Will DeBlake wins CatchMark SportsNet Player of Week (March 4-9, 2024)

This is the final Player of the Week fan poll for the 2023-24 winter sports season.

Last week’s Division 2 boys regional semifinal basketball game did not start as Fremont had hoped, but Will DeBlake & Co. went down swinging.

This week, DeBlake received an honor to cap his Packers career.

DeBlake is the winner of the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll. He received 3,691 of 7,695 total votes in the poll, which recognized six winter sports athletes for their performances March 4-9, 2024.

Ludington basketball player Peyton Welch finished runner-up in the poll with 3,038 votes. See complete voting totals at the bottom of this story for this week’s Player of the Week poll, which is title-sponsored by Complete Restoration & Cleaning Services, Inc.

This is the final Player of the Week fan poll for the 2023-24 winter sports season.

DeBlake, a 6-foot-3 senior wing, scored 14 points to pace Fremont in a 56-42 loss to Spring Lake in a Division 2 regional semifinal matchup last Tuesday at Allendale High School. DeBlake and his teammates trailed 46-23 through three quarters but showed a lot of grit in rallying within 10 points in the fourth quarter.

The week before, DeBlake helped Fremont capture a second-straight district title with 12 points and six rebounds in a 50-45 victory over Sparta.

The Packers finished the season with an 11-15 record.
