Fremont’s Sean Pettis races to first place in Player of Week poll for Sept. 18-23, 2023

Sean Pettis has set the pace for cross country runners in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division this season and he’s among the best in the area.

The Fremont senior has taken first in all but one of his six races at this point of the season. He can add another first-place finish, as he came away with the most votes in the CatchMark SportsNet Player of the Week fan poll.

Six West Michigan Conference fall sports athletes were recognized for their performances spanning Sept. 18-23, 2023. Pettis came out on top with 3,222 of 6,016 total votes.

Montague soccer’s Andy Hernandez finished runner-up in the fan poll with 2,183 votes. See complete voting totals for the six Player of the Week nominees at the bottom of this story.

Pettis continued his strong season by establishing a personal-best time of 15:24.1 in winning the Cougar Division of the Cougar Falcon Invite Saturday at South Christian Sports Park. It was the best time among any of the divisions at the meet.

Pettis also took first place in the WMC Lakes Division jamboree last Tuesday at Whitehall with a time of 16:48.9.
