A program and a fanbase that has not seen winning football since the early 2010’s, still struggling in the 2024 season.
Grand Haven, a school with just over 1,800 students, has not had a football team to win over three games since 2019.
The Bucs had substantial run for about three years from 2009-2011 when they went 25-6 and made the playoffs in each of those years.
Since then, however, they have one playoff berth (Not including 2020).
The high hopes of at least making it over .500 came at the start of the season and even carried into week four when they had a (2-1) record. Even with two wins to start the season, the Bucs would go on to lose six straight games to close out the champaign.
Luke Berry took the nod this season under center. Berry stands tall at 6’6″ and is a pure pocket passer.
Andrew Willemsen, a junior for Grand Haven, is one of its brightest spots. The running back put himself on the map in its season opener vs. Stevensville Lakeshore where he finished with 280 yards and three touchdowns. The Bucs gained momentum early winning 28-21.
Grand Haven’s other win came in week three against Holland West Ottawa, who beat Jenison, who beat Rockford, stay with me. Not saying GH is better than Rockford of course, but the week three win for the Bucs was crucial for the program.
Again, it was Willemsen that held the sparkplug. Rushing for 143 and a TD, Willemsen established himself as a household name in the OK conference. Grand Haven would go on to win 26-14.
